In 1983, Vanessa Williams was the first African-American woman to be crowned Miss America. During her reign, Penthouse magazine printed nude photos of her with another woman taken in 1982. Williams was forced to give up her crown and millions of dollars in endorsement contracts. She came back big time in 1991 with the album Comfort Zone and the single Save the Best for Las, which went straight to #1. She successfully starred on Broadway in several productions before starring in the hit series Ugly Betty in 2005, for which she has been nominated for 3 Emmys.
